The Tables (pre-selected in ILUSTRARTE 2018)
The tables / personal work (Oct. 2016)
(shortlisted in ILUSTRARTE 2018)
pencil, colour pencil, and photoshop / available in shop (Giclée fine art print)
These three illustrations are from my personal work 'the tables' series in the first semester at ECA in 2016. I see tables as an organic, welcoming and open place for human beings to bring or join our emotions together, like Joy Harjo's poem 'Perhaps the world ends here'. She writes' We have given birth on this table, and have prepared our parents for burial here. At this table we sing with joy, with sorrow. We pray of suffering and remorse. We give thanks. Perhaps the world will end at the kitchen table, while we are laughing and crying, eating of the last sweet bite.'
The meaning of the decoration hung on the tree is ‘gratitude’.
It’s written as 恩 in Traditional Chinese. There are three parts including 大,口,and 心(heart) in this word。
There is a Traditional Chinese character ‘雨‘ which means the rain in this work.
家 Wee piggy houses (Clay art)
Clay and gouache
I started to develop the piggy houses in a series illustrations called Tables in 2016. (You can see Tables here ) Ever since then, wee piggy houses have been in some of my creations.
These wee houses are symbols of families and human societies. I created this motif based on the word 'family' in traditional Chinese character. In traditional Chinese, this word' family is written in a shape of a roof and a pig under it (家).
